FORMER boxing champion, Esther Phiri has returned to the gymnasium but has remained cagey on her future prospect of making a return into the ring.
Esther, who has been training at the Exodus Boxing Promotions Stables gymnasium for the past four weeks, said she was happy to be keeping herself fit.
She said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that boxing will forever remain in her and that she will continue training hard to remain in shape.
Asked if there was a chance of her stepping back into the ring, Esther opted to remain mute on the matter saying that it was not the right time to talk about her future in boxing.
“I cannot say anything at the moment but yes I am training to keep fit and also because I love the sport,” she said.
At the time of her retirement, Esther had won the Women International Boxing Federation (WIBF), Global Boxing Union (GBU), Women International Boxing Association (WIBA) and Global Boxing Council (GBC).
Meanwhile, Esther has urged World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver bantamweight champion Catherine Phiri to remain focussed.
Esther said Catherine was a good boxer who has a bright future adding that the future of the sport was bright as long as Zambia continued producing quality boxers.
