THE Government has said the just-ended Agritech Expo held in Chisamba is an indication of its commitment to Private Public Partnership (PPP) programmes which is key to economic growth.
Central Province Permanent Secretary Edwidge Mutale said the government had committed itself to ensuring that agriculture was number one contributor to the country’s economy.
Ms Mutale who described the Expo as a success said that looking at the exhibition it was clear that Zambian farmers were headed for expansion and diversification of crops.
She said the government stood ready to support such a venture aimed at growing the economy and help reduce poverty in the country.
She, however, said there was need to relax conditions over funds provided by banks to allow more people expand their crop production, especially on a larger scale.
She said it was gratifying that the Expo was held in Central Province which was a major contributor of maize and other crops.
And according to the Zambian National Farmers Union (ZNFU) the main objective of the Expo was to allow farmers to compare farming technologies from different
manufacturers worldwide at one site.
The Expo was also used as a business -to -business interaction to help facilitate the high level expansion of the agriculture industry.
