By KALUMIANA KALUMIANA –
POWER Dynamos position as early leaders of the 2014 MTN/FAZ Super League season will be put to the test this afternoon when they host Konkola Mine Police.
Champions Nkana will be seeking to collect maximum points when they visit Napsa Stars, while another big clash of the weekend will see George Lwandamina hoping his Zesco United side recovers from the Confederation Cup exit and pick up full points off Nchanga Rangers.
Power v Mine Police
Tennant Chilumba’s side has made a flying start to the 2014 season on maximum six points and scoring six goals in two matches and conceding one.
And Chilumba faces a Mine Police side that he still harbours bitter-sweet memories of the 2013 season.
Mine Police welcomed Chilumba on his first day on the job last June with a 2-1 away defeat at Konkola Stadium in Chililabombwe.
However, Chilumba avenged that loss in late October with an emphatic 5-0 home win at Arthur Davies Stadium as Power swum from the jaws of relegation to the comfort zone of an eventual eight place finish.
And the spotlight will also be on winger Jimmy Ndhlovu who has began his season at Power with a bang scoring two goals in as many games on his 12-month deal from Nkana.
Victory this afternoon should to keep Power firmly in the driving seat ahead of next Saturday’s big clash away to Nchanga Rangers in Chingola.
Second-placed Rangers visit Zesco United at Levy Mwanawasa in what promises to be an exciting tie.
Last year, Zesco beat Nchanga 1-0 away, while the latter defeated the former 2-1 in Ndola and today’s meeting should also provide for some intriguing viewing considering the history between the two sides over the last nine seasons.
Napsa v Nkana
At Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka, Nkana visit fired-up Napsa Stars at in Lusaka seeking their first league win of the season against a team enjoying a 100 per cent start to the 2014 campaign.
Nkana opened their title defence with a scoreless away draw at promoted Green Eagles in Choma on March 15 and will be hoping to do better even without injured Ronald Kampamba.
Elsewhere, Zanaco visit Konkola Blades in Chililabombwe, National Assembly host Kabwe Warriors in a lunch-time kick-off at Woodlands, while Nakambala Leopards host Green Eagles in Mazabuka.
At Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya, Roan United host fellow winless side Green Buffaloes, while promoted Indeni guest Red Arrows in tomorrow’s clash at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
