THE body of 32-year-old Sydney Chambula, a soldier who drowned in the Zambezi River in Chavuma last Sunday has been retrieved.
Mr Chambula, a sergeant by rank, drowned when he tried to swim across the Zambezi River.
Chavuma District Commissioner Lawrence Kayumba said yesterday that the body of Mr Chapula was retrieved on Tuesday by a team from the Commando Unit in Ndola.
The body was spotted floating near the area where the pontoon is anchored.
He said the body was found intact and was immediately transported to Zambezi Hospital mortuary were it was kept until yesterday when it was expected to be flown to Ndola for burial.
“We are expecting a Zambia Air Force plan to come and ferry the body to Ndola today,” he said.
