GOVERNMENT has recorded steady progress in transforming the country in the period the Patriotic Front (PF) has been in office, Acting President Alexander Chikwanda has said.
He said however, that some projects were being implemented at a slow pace due to lack of sufficient resources.
Mr Chikwanda, who is Finance Minister, said Zambia was ripping benefits from President Michael Sata’s high quality leadership attributes.
“We have made a lot of progress in transforming this country. Though some projects are moving at a slow pace, the country is developing well,” he said.
Mr Chikwanda said Government was still committed to executing the developmental commitments it made to the people prior to the 2011 general elections.
He said this during the handover ceremony of 10 computers to Matero Boys Secondary School in Lusaka yesterday.
The computers were acquired by Matero PF Member of Parliament, Miles Sampa, using his allowances from Parliament.
Mr Chikwanda called on other PF MPs to emulate Mr Sampa to ensure that the people benefited from entrusting their vote to the PF to run national affairs.
Mr Sampa is Commerce Trade and Industry Deputy Minister.
“You must not make people feel like they misplaced their trust by voting for you as MPs, you must work hard for the people that voted for you.
“Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the future of the world. We must then invest in this solid future by empowering young people with ICT skills,” he said.
He implored other Parliamentarians to take a leaf from the gesture so that several other schools benefited, adding that empowering the youths was key to development.
Mr Chikwanda also donated K5,000 for the maintenance of the computers.
Mr Sampa was gratified that he had fulfilled his promise to acquire computers for the learning institution.
“Last year during a graduation ceremony, I pledged to give this school 10 computers from my Parliamentary allowances. I am happy that I have fulfilled the pledge I made,” he said.
School head-boy Kabwe Nkota said the gesture was timely because the Government recently added ICT to the school curriculum.
