By CHILA NAMAIKO –
THE Freedom and Democracy Fighters Association of Zambia (FDFAZ) has praised Government for taking development to rural parts of the country.
FDFAZ national secretary Kayumba Hamweende said the association would remain non-partisan and work with the Government of the day.
Mr Hamweende said the association was grateful that President Michael Sata had remained committed to uplifting the living standards of freedom fighters.
He was speaking in Choma on Wednesday when FDFAZ members from Southern Province held a consultative meeting with Provincial Minister Daniel Munkombwe.
The members were drawn from Choma, Namwala, Monze and Gwembe.
“Our policy as an association is to work and support the Government of the  day. At the moment, we are happy with our Head of State for his continued efforts to improve our lives,” he said
He, however, appealed to the   Government   to assist association members with empowerment facilities that would improve their living standards.
Mr Hamweende said freedom fighters in many parts of the country were living in abject poverty and needed support from Government and other groups.
Mr Munkombwe said Government was concerned about the welfare  of freedom   fighters.
In a speech read for him by provincial deputy Permanent Secretary Douglas Ngimbu, Mr Munkombwe said the Government recognised the contributions of freedom fighters to the liberation struggle.
