Rangers 2 Buffaloes 1-
‘BRAVE’ Nchanga Rangers yesterday added more salt to Green Buffaloes’ wounds after handing the army side their second successive defeat after this MTN-FAZ Week Two encounter played in Chingola.
While Buffaloes were agonisingly recording their second defeat, Rangers recorded a second successive victory that took them up to six points as leaders Power but relegated to second position on goal difference.
It was another bad week for coach Patrick Phiri whose side lost the opening game at Woodlands Stadium to Konkola Mine Police by an identical score line.
Yesterday’s result was a repeat of last year’s victory that saw Rangers’ striker Bornwell Mwape and Buffaloes’ winger Allan Mukuka appear on the score sheet .
This clash played before a partisan crowd at Nchanga Stadium, saw Mwape open the score from the penalty in the fifth minute after Kapiri Mposhi based referee Jani Sikazwe pointed to the spot for a foul on Larry Bwalya in the box.
But Mukuka restored parity in the 20th minute with a superb strike, giving the Zambia Army sponsored side a glimmer of hope as the two teams were tied going into half time.
The Fighton Simukonda’s men came into the second half with urgency and Bwalya was Rangers’ most potent attacking weapon. But it was Nawa Nawa who scored the match winner five minutes after restart with a close range strike after being put through by Bwalya.
