By ELIAS CHIPEPO –

FORMER Zambia soccer team hard-tackling defender, Kaiser Kalambo was yesterday put to rest at the Leopards Hill’s Memorial Park in Lusaka.

And Government has urged FAZ to work out a deliberate arrangement in which they could take care of the welfare of the former national team players.

Government officials, surviving members of the 1974 KK 11 national team, coaches and former players braved the rains as they trooped to the cemetery to pay their last respects to Kalambo, who died on Tuesday in Lusaka from prostate cancer.

Tributes were heard from his KK11 captain Dickson Makwaza, former Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Teddy Mulonga, Zambia Football Coaches Association (ZAFCA) president Patrick Kangwa and the family on a sombre day that saw the old guards pay their last tributes to one of country’s greatest players to have donned the national team colours.

Among those that attended the burial included Fred Mwila, Dan Kabwe, Peter Mhango, Emmy Musonda, Dean Mwiinde, ZAFCA vice president Lewis Shambulo, Patrick Phiri, Zambia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board (ZPBWCB) chairperson Nelson Sapi and Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) board chairperson Mwamba Kalenga.

Others were FAZ technical director Honour Janza, Football House head of competitions and administration Julio Chiluba, referees director Joseph Kabungo including some retired players and coaches.
