ZAMBIA has been awarded the rights to host the Africa Open Body Building championship in August by the World Fitness Federation (WFF) and the World Body Building Federation (WBBF).
Zambia Body Building and Fitness Federation (ZBBFF) president Danny Mkandawire confirmed the development in an interview yesterday.
Mkandawire said his federation was happy to be given an opportunity to host the international body building contest that will attract participation from 18 countries.
“We are happy that we will be hosting this big championship this year and we feel preparations should start immediately so that the event is successful,” Mkandawire said.
He said the ZBBFF has since cancelled the annual Mr Iron Man contest that was supposed to take in Livingstone this September. Mkandawire said the move was aimed at directing the attention to the continental championship.
He said the federation would soon meet to come up with the budget for the African Open contest.
“In order to stage a successful competition, we feel all our efforts of resource mobilisation must be channelled on the big event hence the move to call off the Mr Iron Man contest,” he added.
