ZESCO United head coach George Lwandamina has hailed his team for putting up a spirited fight against Indeni to collect maximum points in a tightly contested MTN-FAZ Premier League Week One fixture.
The 2014 Confederations Cup envoys had to come from a goal down to beat promoted side Indeni 2-1 in a match played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
It was Zesco’s second victory in 2014 after enduring a had a disastrous pre-season training that saw them lose six games on a trot but the Ndola outfit seems to have rediscovered their winning formula under the tutelage of Lwandamina.
Lwandamina said in a post match interview said he was delighted with the attitude shown by his players during the game especially that winning the opening league match was always difficult for any team.
He said though his frontline was still blunt despite having numerous scoring chances, a victory was important for his team’s quest to challenge for the title.
“The boys played well and we created a lot of scoring opportunities which we could not convert but I am very happy with the way we played to get the result and if we continue like this we will achieve our goals,” Lwandamina said.
He said winning the first league game added impetus to his side as they travel to Ghana where they will face Medeama Sporting Club in the Confederation Cup second round of first leg clash this weekend.
Lwandamina said confidence was high in the team and that the players were looking forward for a positive result in this weekend’s Confederation Cup match.
“This win has raised morale in the team and has added an impetus to the team and the boys are confident enough to face Medeama and come back with a positive result. For now, we have to shift our attention back to continental football and ensure that the team is adequately prepared for the encounter,” he said.
