LUSAKA Mayor Daniel Chisenga has called on all Zambians to participate in this year’s Golden Jubilee celebrations as a way of thanking God for the peace the country continues to enjoy.
Zambia will this year celebrate 50 years of independence with a great reputation of being a haven of peace and stability.
“As Zambia turns 50 years, let everyone participate in the celebrations as a way of thanking God for the wonderful things He has been doing for our nation,” said Mr Chisenga when he addressed pupils from St Raphael School.
Mr Chisenga said he was disappointed with some youths that shunned the Youth Day celebrations last week.
“Shunning national celebrations because of some grievances you havewith one another is not the solution. We should put aside all the grievances we have and celebrate the golden jubilee,” he added.
The Mayor said the Golden Jubilee celebrations were not only for the elite in society but for everyone in the country.
He said all initiatives made to promote the Golden Jubilee celebrations were welcome and also urged the pupils to work hard in their academic work.
And speaking at the same occasion, St Raphael pre-school and primary school PTA vice chairperson Kiss Abraham said the school had joined in the Golden Jubilee celebrations through art.
Mr Abraham said the children were exposed to different places so that they would be aware of their environment and that it would help them reflect and make decisions on how to make the country cleaner.
