THE story reported in your Thursday edition about a 15-year-old boy named Peter Chimbala who committed suicide by hanging himself on Youth Day in Ndola’s Kawama Township made sad reading.
There was a time I used to think that committing suicide was a selfish and cowardly way to go.
I felt the victims never regarded the feelings of those they left behind. I know better now.
Suicide is like a snap in judgment because of the inward pain the person is going through and has exhausted all avenues of killing the pain that is usually always there. This is sad.
What makes this story even sadder is that this boy was also a Grade seven pupil who probably had brighter future.
When someone loses their spouse, they are called a widow or widower. When a child loses their parents, they are called orphans.
Apparently, there are no words for a parent who loses a child.
My heart goes out to his family who must be feeling the worst loss right now.
