CONSTRUCTION of the first ever secondary School in Luano District has commenced.
Luano District Commissioner Luke Mwamba disclosed that the contractor who moved to the site in January is moving at a good pace.
Mr Mwamba said so far 27 teachers’ houses have reached foundation level as well as some classroom blocks.
He said people in the district are happy with the development as they will have a secondary school for the first time.
‘People of Luano District are happy with the construction of a boarding school as this is the first time there will be a secondary school in the area’, Mr Mwamba said.
Mr Mwamba thanked Government on behalf of the people for the school which will enhance development in the district.
He said there are high illiteracy levels in the district and having a secondary school in the area would increase the number of people accessing education.
Mr Mwamba said pupils in the area walk long distances to access education but with the coming of a boarding school it would lessen the distances pupils cover to attend school.
He added that the contractor has employed more than 87 local youths on site in various construction works and would engage more once the project takes off fully.
Mr Mwamba said the youth in the district have been empowered through the project as infrastructure development creates employment.
