MSUPADZI Catholic Parish Priest Peter Banda has bemoaned the high incidences of divorce cases at his parish situated in Chipata District.

Father Banda said at the official blessing of St Joseph Small Christian Community Church building which coincided with this year’s celebration of the holy family on the Catholic liturgical calendar at Zizwe village in Chipata on Sunday that he was disturbed with the high cases of divorces in the church.

He said he was keeping piles of files concerning Christian families who were seeking divorce.

Fr Banda told Christians who included Luangeni Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Zulu that it was disheartening that Christians themselves were fond of rushing to courts to to end marriages forgetting God’s teachings on the matter.

“It is sad to see files of divorce cases in my office since the time I arrived at Msupadzi Parish. People have been coming to my office to seek divorce which is unchristian because any divorce is not God’s plan or creation,” he said.

Fr Banda said married couples should always cherish and respect God’s teachings on marriage.

He also reminded the Government to always concentrate on developmental projects instead of bickering.

He said the Patriotic Front (PF) Government should ensure it delivers quality services to the people, especially during the distribution of farming inputs.

“Please I normally get worried to hear on the news every time about people in PF quarreling at the expense of developmental projects.

“Let the Government leaders concentrate on developmental projects and forget about GBM (Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba),”he said.

He also commended the Government for embarking on a serious mission to develop Luangeni constituency.

Fr Banda said he was happy that a number of roads and the drilling of boreholes were being worked on in Luangeni.

And Mr Zulu who is Mines, Energy and Water Development Deputy Minister commended the Christians for coming together to build a church.

He said he was happy that during the official blessing of the church building, Christians drawn from other denominations converged together to celebrate the development.
