THE United Party for National Development (UPND) in Livingstone has called for the speedy delivery of the new Constitution in 2014.
UPND Livingstone District spokesperson Neto Halwabala said a new Constitution had great potential to ease the tension among various
stakeholders in the country.
Mr Halwabala said his party was demanding quick delivery of a people driven Constitution in 2014 to ease tension in the nation.
Mr Halwabala said this in a press statement released in Livingstone yesterday.
“As we are coming to the end of 2013, the UPND in Livingstone District is demanding to have a people driven Constitution without any further
delays. This is because the new Constitution is the only lasting solution to the tension in the country,” Mr Halwabala said.
He said his party was concerned when the nation was being engulfed in tension as a result of not having a good Constitution.
Mr Halwabala cited the Electoral Act and the Public Order Act as some of the pieces of legislation which were a source of tension in the
country.
“A Constitution is a supreme document meant to benefit all citizens. Zambians have many problems such as poor governance and poverty because of having a fractured Constitution,” he said.
Mr Halwabala also said the year 2013 had been productive and that many lessons were learnt from which all political parties should be able to
learn from.
