NKANA coach Masauso Mwale says the Zambian champions have shifted attention to the MTN-FAZ Premier League that kicks off tomorrow after securing qualification to the second round of the 2014 CAF Champions League.
Mwale said in an interview yesterday that the 12-time league champions were prepared to collect three points in the opening fixture against Green Eagles away at the Independence Stadium in Choma.
He said in as much the opening games were always tricky for any team, the defending champions were set to start the season on a winning note.
“The first games are always tough and tricky, but we have done our homework and we will ensure that start the season on a winning note. We have had a number of competitive games so far and we just have to put our feet down for a positive result,” he said.
Mwale said the players were fully aware that continental football was different from the local league and thus urged them to take the match seriously as Eagles will provide a tough game for the Kitwe side.
He said a win will boost Nkana’s confidence of defending the title.
Meanwhile, the Nkana coach said he was cautious about the forthcoming Champions League second round first leg home tie against Zamalek of Egypt next weekend.
He said he would rotate his players in order to give an opportunity to some players who were not registered for the CAF inter-club competition to showcase their skills.
“We will be playing this game knowing that we are facing Zamalek next week Saturday, so we will give chance to some other players to play,” he said.
