KABIMBA

By XAVIER MANCHISHI-
COUNCIL of African Political Parties (CAPP) president, Wynter Kabimba has officially opened the council secretariat building in Khartoum, Sudan, with a call on African political parties to act with one voice in the promotion of peace and development.
Mr Kabimba noted that the opening of the secretariat marked an important milestone towards the realisation of the objectives of CAPP.
Mr Kabimba, who is secretary general of the ruling Patriotic Front (PF), thanked the Sudanese Government for agreeing to host the CAPP secretariat.
He thanked the Ethiopian Government for providing his organisation with a liaison office which enabled it to engage effectively with the African Union (AU), headquartered in Addis Ababa.
Mr Kabimba, who spent time in his new office, paid tribute to the CAPP secretariat staff, under the leadership of secretary general Nafie Ali Nafie, for their hard work.
PF director of communications Chanda Mfula said in a statement that Mr Kabimba, who is Justice Minister, thanked the media in Sudan and Africa for highlighting the objectives of CAPP.
The new CAPP secretariat has offices for the CAPP president, the secretary general, full time staff and has conference facilities.
The main objectives of CAPP are to act as a vehicle for cooperation and coordination among African political parties on issues of mutual concern and to promote solidarity, unity and understanding among the countries and peoples of Africa.
Recently, CAPP and the AU agreed to mutual cooperation in areas such as peace and conflict resolution, as well as monitoring of elections and democratic processes in Africa.
