THE opposition MMD and Forum for Democracy and Development in Eastern Province have suffered a setback after 105 members from Chamasonkho Ward in Sinda District ditched their parties to join the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).
Former Chamasonkho Ward Councillor Henry Banda said the ruling party had done a lot so far in developing Zambia.
Mr Banda, who led the other opposition members in defecting to the PF, said the MMD would never bounce back to power.
Receiving the defectors at Sinda Motel in Sinda on Monday, Eastern Province PF chairperson Lameck Mangani thanked the cadres for their bold decision to join the ruling party.
Mr Mangani, who was accompanied by the vice-provincial secretary Joseph Kolosa and provincial youth chairperson Andrew Lubusha, said the party was “spreading wings” across the province because most people were joining it.
He said the defection of members from other political parties showed that the PF was growing stronger in the province.
Mr Mangani urged party members not to relent in their efforts to persuade more people to join the PF in readiness for the 2016 general elections.
