GOVERNMENT has congratulated opposition MMD Lunte Member of Parliament (MP) Felix Mutati on his election as a member of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Committee of Elders.
Chief Government spokesperson Mwansa Kapeya said Mr Mutati’s election as a member of the high profile organ of COMESA was not only well-deserved, but was also a source of immense pride and honour to the people of Zambia.
Mr Mutati’s election was contained in a communiqué released at the 17th Summit of COMESA Authority of Heads of State and Government held in the Democratic Republic of Congo capital, Kinshasa, from February 26 to 27, 2014.
COMESA’s Committee of Elders has a crucial role of preventive diplomacy on issues of peace, security and stability as a fundamental pre-requisite for the attainment of sustainable development in the region and beyond.
“It is also a sign of the confidence COMESA member States have in Zambia’s political and governance system under the leadership of His Excellency President Michael Chilufya Sata,” Mr Kapeya, who is also Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said.
