REKAYS Farming and Building Supplies Limited have pumped in K60,000 to become the sponsors for the inaugural 2014 Zambia Professional Ladies Golf Open tournament prelude, the Pro-Am.
Zambia Open Organising Committee (ZOOC) chairperson Alex Mashano made the announcement during a media briefing in Ndola yesterday.
Mashano, who is also former Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) president, said the development means that the organising committee had now remained with a task of securing the major title sponsor for the tournament.
The Zambia Professional Ladies Golf Open, which will attract about 100 players, will run from March 28 to 30 and will be preceded by two Pro Ams.
“Reekays has taken up the challenge of sponsoring the Pro Am and we are thrilled to have the company on board. We now need to bring in a title sponsor and we remain optimistic that come next week, we will have the pledges fulfilled,” Mashano said.
He said the committee has so far received 35 entries from South Africa’s Sunshine Tour and that the number was expected to swell.
Mashano commended Reekay’s for putting up a shed at Ndola Golf Club ahead of the prestigious tournament which will be the first-ever Professional Ladies Golf event to be staged in Zambia and also coincides with the golden jubilee celebrations for the local ladies sport’s existence.
And Reekays general manager Alpesh Desai said his company was proud to be part of the tournament.
“We try our best to help the community whenever we can and this is one such opportunity, which we are happy to be part of,” he said.
