CNMC Chairman Wen Gang Explores New Horizons for China-Africa Collaboration

Wen Gang, Chairman of China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co., Ltd. (“CNMC”),
recently led a delegation to several African countries and held talks with local government
officials and corporate representatives, reinforcing CNMC’s commitment to deepening
partnerships and advancing development initiatives across the continent.
In South Africa, Chairman Wen met with prominent industry leaders, including Themba
Mkhwanazi, Regional Director for Africa & Australia, Anglo American, and Zhou Chao,
Executive Vice President of Ivanhoe Mines’ China business, to explore strategic opportunities.
The delegation also conducted research at South African institutions to strengthen regional
collaboration.
The delegation proceeded to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), visiting key
CNMC-affiliated enterprises, including China Nonferrous Mining Hong Kong Holdings
Limited, China Nonferrous Congo (CNMCC), Kambove Mining SAS, SOMIDEZ, and
Lualaba Copper Smelter. During discussions in Lubumbashi with Guy-Robert Lukama,
Chairman of the Board, Gécamines, both parties reached a consensus to enhance bilateral
cooperation. Going forward, both parties are committed to further deepening cooperation,
fostering mutual benefit, and driving common development for their respective countries.
In Zambia, the delegation inspected NFC Africa Mining PLC (NFCA), Sino-Metals Leach,
Chambishi Copper Smelter, the Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone
(ZCCZ), and CNMC Luanshya Copper Mines PIC. Chairman Wen also met with Hakainde
Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia, Jacob Jack Mwiimbu, Minister of Home
Affairs and Internal Security, and Paul C C Kabuswe, Minister of Mines and Minerals
Development. They had in-depth exchanges and reached a consensus on deepening
cooperation and strengthening investment. Chairman Wen stated that CNMC would continue
to increase its investment in Zambian mining projects, adhere to the concept of green
development, and make greater contributions to the local economy and people’s livelihoods.
Marking CNMC’s 20th anniversary in Africa, this visit highlights its enduring dedication to
fostering high-impact projects and enhancing China-Africa economic and trade cooperation
and cultural exchanges. Looking ahead, CNMC remains committed to collaborating with
African partners to chart a new chapter in China-Africa cooperation.
