THE Government wants the mine tax regime to be more competitive in order to achieve the three million tonnes copper production target by 2031.
Finance and National Planning Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane said one of the mistakes done in the past was that the country’s mining taxes were too punitive compared to other countries and this scared investors away.
He said the first step taken by the UPND administration was to re-align the tax regime so that the mining activities in Zambia were in line with what was obtaining in other countries.
