PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has appealed to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to stop the escalation of global wars and to appeal to belligerents in armed conflicts particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Sudan and in Mozambique, to lay down their arms.
The President has also requested the UN to help prevent disputes from escalating into fully fledged armed disputes.
In a keynote address to the 79th general assembly delivered on his behalf by Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Mulambo Haimbe, the President also called on the international community to scale up financing to countries with debt distress to help them achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
