Crude oil imports hit 16 000 tonnes monthly

THE Crushers and Edible Oils Refiners Association (CEDORA) has doubled the importation of crude oil from 8 000 tonnes to 16 000 tonnes per month.
This is to avoid the artificial shortage of cooking oil on the market due to low production of soya beans caused by the drought.
CEDORA Director Aubrey Chibumba said to prevent the shortage of cooking oil in the country as a result of insufficient soya beans, the association was importing more crude oil to meet the demand.
Dr Chibumba explained in an interview that importing crude oil was easier, given the challenge of load shedding caused by the drought than crushing and refining soya beans.
