Malanji case: $9.2m was inflated to $19.5m, court hears

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Court has heard that Parliament in 2020 and 2021 did not budget for the acquisition of the Turkiye properties and that the actual contract of purchasing the properties was US$9.2 million but in the final one-page contract the figure was inflated to $19.5m.
This is in a matter in which former Secretary to the Treasury Fredson Yamba and Foreign Affairs Minister Joseph Malanji were jointly in court for failure to follow procedure in the purchasing of 10 housing units, an office and a Chancery at the Turkiye Embassy in Ankhara and possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
