THE Zambian Rugby Union (ZRU) has expressed concern with the growing trend of having too many forfeited games in the National Rugby League (NRL).
ZRU competition chairperson Thomson Ngulube said in an interview yesterday that the growing trend was unacceptable and that stiffer punishment would need to be meted out on the clubs found wanting.
Over the weekend, Nkwazi, Roan and Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF) failed to travel to play their return matches and gifted Mufulira Leopards, Red Arrows and Green Buffaloes free points and a 21-0 score respectively.
“It is unfortunate that teams did not travel to fulfil their league obligations and I don’t know if it is something to do with their sponsors or what. But the league needs to move on and we are not going to tolerate the situation where unnecessary excuses are coming from the clubs because our league is guided by our constitution,” he said.
