THE Government has warned purveyors of false and misleading information on social media to desist from the practice or face the grave consequences of the law.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu said the Government had observed with concern, a growing and alarming trend in the abuse of the cyberspace by members of the public through platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.
Mr Mwiimbu said while the country observed the dictates of freedom of expression, if left unchecked, the spread of the false information posed a threat to national peace and security.
He was speaking during a joint Press briefing with Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati in Lusaka yesterday.
