A ZAMBIAN gospel artiste based in South Africa who is also alleged to be a drug cartel leader with connections in various countries has been arrested by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) while in transit in Kazungula.
Dickson Phiri, 39, who was also suspected to be behind the recruitment of Zambian women in drug trafficking, was found with 38 bundles of high grade cannabis weighing 41.5 kg.
He allegedly had drug connections in South Africa, India, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Eswatini, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
DEC public relations officer Allan Tamba confirmed in a statement yesterday the arrest of Phiri, who was driving his Hino truck (BLC 6584) from South Africa.
