THE Government has made significant strides in strengthening the national blood transfusion service, President Hakainde Hichilema has said.
This was aimed at providing safe blood transfusion services in health facilities.
In a speech read on his behalf by Health Minister Elijah Muchima at the Volunteer Blood Donors Day in Lusaka yesterday, President Hichilema said despite facing challenges, the Government had taken measures to support provision of safe transfusion services across Zambia.
He cited measures such as reliance on voluntary non-remunerated blood donations, constructing 20 blood storage and distribution hubs in the 10 provinces of Zambia with partner support, translating into two blood storage hubs per province.
