Japan gives Zambia $2m emergency grant

THE Japanese Government has given Zambia an emergency grant of US$2 million for food assistance to areas most affected by drought.
The funding would be utilised through the World Food Programme (WFP) to improve nutrition and food security for people facing a food crisis.
Japanese counsellor and deputy chief of mission Ominato Satoshi said yesterday in a statement that the emergency grant aid would be directed towards providing emergency food assistance to about 8,400 of the most vulnerable households, translating to approximately 42,000 people.
Mr Satoshi said the help would go to the hardest-hit areas of Southern Province from August 2024 to January 2025.
