THE vigorous fight against corruption must not be construed as persecution, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri has said.
Mr Phiri said that there would be no sacred cows in the crusade against corruption and that his office would not relent.
He said in an interview with journalists in Lusaka yesterday that he was aware that some individuals had a wrong perception about the current anti-corruption fight.
“We are resolved to fighting corruption and money laundering, and to prosecute vigorously. Haven’t you heard us being accused of persecuting people? That allegation of persecution is because of the vigorous nature of prosecution.
“We are not relenting. There are no sacred cows, and when we say there are no sacred cows, it’s not by rhetoric, it’s borne out by the actions. We have taken action and we are continuing to take action,” Mr Phiri said.
