ZAMRA orders recall of BP drug from India

THE Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has ordered Esvee Medicare Limited to immediately recall a high blood pressure drug Furosemide Tablets BP 40 MG, from India because it takes longer to break down into smaller particles required for drug absorption.
The particulars of the drug are Furosemide Tablets BP 40 MG, batch number TFR222001, manufactured by Skylark Pharmaceuticals Limited of India.
ZAMRA director general Makomani Siyanga said in a medical product alert yesterday that Furosemide was used alone or together with other medicines to treat fluid retention in the body and high blood pressure.
