Govt acts to cushion power deficit

GOVERNMENT has procured 218 Mega Watts (MW) imports of power from Eskom of South Africa and Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) to cushion the energy deficit.
Energy Minister Makozo Chikote has also announced the removal of tax on the importation of solar equipment.
At a Press briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Chikote said the electricity procured from the two companies was expected to be injected into the national grid this month.
He said Cabinet which sat on Tuesday, this week approved more items to the tax-exemption bracket for solar equipment.
