THE government has started constructing the K8.2- million Muyembe Dam in the Luena farm bloc in Kawambwa district.
Kawambwa District Commissioner Godfrey Chilambwe said the dam is key to the development of the 100,000 hectares of farm block.
Mr Chilambwe said no economy can grow without massive investment in the agriculture sector as it remains the country’s strategic crop to increase economic growth in an equitable manner.
He noted that agriculture remains a key priority sector in the growth and poverty reduction agenda.
“Kawambwa district hosts the 100,000 hectares Luena farm bloc and key infrastructure such as electricity, good road network and irrigation activities remain of great importance towards the development of the farm bloc,” he said.
