PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is mobilising US$15 billion through the World Bank for Accelerating Sustainable and Clean Energy Access Transformation in Eastern and Southern Africa (ASCENT).
The President said the International Development Association (IDA) had already committed $5 billion to provide electricity access to more than 100 million people over a period of seven years.
The Head of State made the remarks in his capacity as chairperson of the COMESA Authority on regional integration achievements in 2023, in a virtual address to the sixth mid-year coordination meeting of the African Union (AU), regional economic communities and regional mechanisms in Accra, Ghana yesterday.
