Kenya develops African swine fever vaccine

THE International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Kenya has come up with a vaccine against the African Swine Fever (ASF) which has been ravaging pigs in the region causing huge economic losses.
ILRI scientist, Hussein Abkallo says that the ASF, caused by the African Swine Fever Virus (ASFV), is a lethal haemorrhagic fever which can wipe out all infected pigs.
Dr Abkallo said during a communicating science workshop here that currently there has been no vaccine or effective treatment against the viral animal disease.
