SIXTY-ONE containers of essential medical supplies meant for public health centres have been diverted to a private warehouse in Lusaka’s Makeni area, Parliament has heard.
The consignment from Egypt was destined for the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).
In a ministerial statement yesterday, Health Minister Sylvia Masebo said the matter had been reported to law enforcement agencies as it was clear that there was gross mismanagement and negligence bordering on criminality.
She said her ministry had entered into a Government-to-Government procurement with Unified Procurement Authority (UPA) of Egypt for the supply of essential medicines.
