Worldwide to pick team for Spain tourney

WORLDWIDE Scholarships Zambia has been given the right to organise a team to represent the country at Spain’s biggest youth football competition called the Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) football festival.
The (MIC) football festival is an international youth soccer tournament held in Barcelona, Spain and this year edition runs from April 15 to 20.
Worldwide Scholarships Africa director Munya Maraire said his organisation was asked to pick a team of Under-20 players to compete at the 14th edition of the tournament.
Maraire said that the MIC football festival was a high profile football tournament that have brought to the world attention of some of the world’s most amazing talents like Lionel Messi and Cesc Fabregas, Marcelo and Gerald Pique.
“We have been asked to take part in this high level football tournament and we shall start the process of organising a team. We shall go countrywide to pick players start that process this
weekend at Baobab School,” he said.

According to the MIC football festival website, micfootball.com the tournament will this year again have the best team from across the world and named some of them as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF and Manchester United.
Other teams to take part are Ajax, RCD Espanyol, Athletic Club, FC Porto, Liverpool FC, FC Utrecht, Inter Milan and the national teams of Brazil and Qatar among others as those that have already confirmed participation in the tournament to be held in various locations of the Costa Brava.
And Maraire announced that Worldwide Scholarships was in the process of establishing a football academy in Zambia and that the proposed site for the academy would be Baobab School in Lusaka.
He said his organisation was impressed with the talent existing in the country which he described as raw power and that his organisation would work hard at making sure it taps into Zambia’s potential.
