THE Government says Cabinet resolved to put all six former surviving Zambian vice-presidents on an allowance as a matter of necessity to rescue them from a precarious situation.
Chief Government Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said the former vice-presidents were put on an allowance to use for subsistence purposes and because they were appointed as President Hakainde Hichilema’s advisors and envoys.
Speaking during a media engagement in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Mweetwa said Cabinet had taken note of Citizens First president Harry Kalaba’s concern that while such a move was welcome, it should be backed by an Act of Parliament.
