$5.5bn needed for El Nino-hit SADC States

THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) is appealing for US$5.5 billion to augment domestic resources of Member States affected by El Nińo-induced drought and floods affecting over 61 million people.
The regional body is also appealing for support in efforts for resource mobilisation from national, regional, and international partners in response to the impacts of El Niño induced drought and floods.
