ZESCO is in talks with Mozambique for a possible increase in the quantum of power exports to Zambia.
Energy Minister Peter Kapala said currently, the country was importing between 50 and 90 Megawatts (MW) of power from 21:00 hours to 05:00 hours and was anticipating to increase the quantum by another 120 MW.
“So Zesco is actively engaged with EDM of Mozambique, for an increase in firm power imports for an additional 120 MW. Zesco also plans to gradually withdraw 120 MW from the export market taking into consideration the current bilateral contracts. This plan is scheduled to run from February 2024 to December 2024. However, it is worth noting that this plan will translate into a revenue loss of US$110 million,” Mr Kapala said.
