‘No declaration of national disaster without assessment’

THE Government will not declare the 2023/2024 farming season a national disaster because of the dry spell which has hit some parts of the country until a thorough assessment is conducted.
And in a related development, Agriculture Minister Rueben Mtolo has reassured Parliament that the country remains food secure with adequate maize stocks to last until the next harvest.
Acting Chief Government Spokesperson Brenda Tambatamba said the decision to declare a national disaster was serious requiring careful consideration and adherence to the provisions outlined in the Disaster Management Act.
