IMF assures on debt restructuring

THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) says it will ensure issues like the Comparability of Treatment (CoT) do not become an obstacle to Zambia and other countries that are restructuring their foreign debt.
The principle of CoT is a key element of the G20’s Common Framework for debt restructuring which entails distribution of the burden of debt reduction equally among creditors, including the private ones.
IMF director of African deportment Abebe Aemro Selassie said progress on the debt restructuring process would be made by ensuring that issues such as CoT do not become a blockage to individual countries, like Zambia, that were re-profiling their debt.
