Africa starts 90 p.c. tariffs removal on goods

IN an effort to boost intra-African trade on the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Africa has embarked on a gradual elimination of tariffs on 90 per cent of goods and services.
Commerce, Trade and Industry Minister Chipoka Mulenga notes the continent has also reduced barriers to trade in services in order to increase Africa’s income by $450 billion before 2035.
Mr Mulenga said this on the margins of the 13th AfCFTA Council of Ministers responsible for trade meeting held in Durban, South Africa from January 30 to 31, this year.
