OPERATIONS at Konkola Deep Mining Project (KDMP) in Chililabombwe have resumed after Government lifted the two-week suspension.
Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) public relations and communications manager Shapi Shachinda announced the resumption of operations in a statement yesterday.
The operations resumed on Wednesday after being suspended last month when a cage carrying seven miners underground tripped.
Mr Shachinda said hoisting of ore at the KDMP Middle Shaft Loading commenced during the night shift this week on Wednesday.
“KCM, while working in close collaboration with the Mine Safety Department, has made progress to ensure all necessary measures are put in place for safety of employees and equipment following the accident,” Mr Shachinda said.
KDMP, with a capacity of 200,000 tonnes of copper production per annum is part of Vedanta’s expansion programme that has raised the company’s investment to more than $2.7 billion in the country.
