AS the effects of man-made climate change become more pronounced, water shortages are becoming more common throughout Africa, with Southern Africa identified as a particular climate change hotspot.
This has had severe implications on the ability of vulnerable communities, especially in rural areas, to access safe and clean water.
In Zambia drought periods followed by shorter rainy seasons are reported to have increased, while water bodies are fast drying up, resulting in insufficient surface water, especially for dam reservoirs.
