SURPRISE-PACKAGE Kennedy Kanyoka cracked at the last moment to allow Candidate Master (CM) Godwin Phiri to win the CEC Copperbelt Youth and Festive Open tournament in Ndola.
In the women’s section, Naomi Mwale finished with an eye-catching eight points from a possible nine to take the title.
In the Open section and after holding top spot for the first seven rounds, Kanyoka lost the last two rounds to International Master (IM) Kelvin Chumfwa and a competitive William Mwape to fall from the top order.
