A GRADE 10 pupil from Wusakile High School in Kitwe has died after a school bus she was travelling in overturned and crashed her head.
The accident happened when a Toyota Corolla, registration number ABC 4551, hit into a Mitsubishi Rosa bus which was ferrying pupils from Rose of Sharon School.
The school-going children ranging between five and nine years old were being ferried to Nkana East and Nkana West schools.
Copperbelt Police chief Joyce Kasosa confirmed the accident which happened around 07:00 hours yesterday on Nakambala Road in Ndeke Township.
Ms Kasosa identified the deceased as Alice Nawakwi 21 of B306 New Ndeke who died on the accident scene.
She said Emily Polombwe aged 16 of unknown address sustained a cut on the head, a painful right arm and was admitted to Wusakile Mine Hospital.
The deceased pupil and the injured one asked for a lift in the bus that was headed towards their school on its way to Rose of Sharon schools.
“The fatal accident happened when an over speeding Toyota corolla which was moving from North to South and driven by Kennedy Chiwila, 24, lost control and  hit into a Mitsubishi Rosa which was moving from south to north,” she said.
The school bus which driven by Boston Ngoma, 42, of J-56 Chamboli Township sustained damages on the left part and had lost its fuel tank in the process.
And Rose of Sharon School director Purity Silumesii said six children who were on the bus where taken to Wusakile Mine hospital where they were examined and discharged.
Ms Silumesii regretted the accident especially that a life was lost.
And Angela Mushili a Grade six teacher who was at the scene said it was unfortunate that the diriver in the corolla, who appeared drunk, hit into the bus and caused the accident.
