Farmers abandon cotton production – CAZ

MOST farmers have abandoned the growing of cotton due to various challenges facing the industry such as poor pricing and lack of access to seed. This has led to production falling to 25,000 tonnes per year.
Cotton Association of Zambia (CAZ) executive director John Ngwenyama said out of the more than 60,000 members only 10,000 have remained active, causing the national production to decline from 275,000 tonnes at the peak to the current 10,000 tonnes.
