GOVERNMENT has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Caritas-Chipata for the distribution of 2000 x 50 kilogramme bags relief food to Luangeni Constituency in Chipata District.
Luangeni Member of Parliament (MP) who is Energy Deputy Minister Charles Zulu confirmed in Chipata yesterday that the Government has entrusted a faith based-organisation, Caritas to distribute the relief food to the starving villagers.
“We have picked Caritas-Chipata which is a faith- based organisation to start the process of distributing relief food to people in Luangeni Constituency.
“In fact Caritas–Chipata in liaison with Chipata District Commissioner (Kalunga Zulu) is supposed to start the distribution exercise today (yesterday),” Mr Zulu said.
Caritas –Chipata director Vincent Daka said his organisation was expected to distribute about 100 tonnes of relief food to Luangeni area.
Father Daka said Caritas-Chipata would work around the clock to distribute the relief food to the affected areas.
“We are expected to distribute about 100 tonnes (2,000 bags) of relief food to Luangeni and at the moment Mr Musukwa he has gone to the offices to find out which areas food is needed,” he said.
Mr Zulu also said more than five culverts were needed on Jenda Road which Brut Engineering Zambia Limited was rehabilitating.
He said more culverts on Jenda Road would increase the lifespan of the road which was being rehabilitated by Bruit at a total sum of K4.3 million at a distance of 14.5 kilometres.
Mr Zulu said the Government had improved the provision of quality water through the installation of solar panels from hand-pump at five places such as Chikando, Kaphinde, Msupadzi, Mgabi and Jerusalem which were benefiting 3,000 people.
